Drama o teenagerce zachraňující rozpad rodiny Winter’s Bone a dokument o válce v Afghánistánu Restrepo – to jsou hlavní oceněné snímky festivalu Sundance, první veliké přehlídky letošního roku.

Velkou cenu poroty získal snímek režisérky Debry Granik Winter’s Bone.  Jde o napínavé drama, v němž se mladá dívka snaží najít svého otce, který je zapletený do obchodu s drogami, a zachránit tak svou rodinu před naprostou bídou, když to nikdo jiný nedokáže. Podle brožurky snímek  „líčí se strhujícím napětím archetypální obřad překlenutí  dospívání v dospělost“.

Nejlepším dokumentem se stal snímek Restrepo o válce v Afghánistánu. Novinář Sebastian Junger a fotograf  Tim Hetherington strávili s americkými vojáky jeden rok, aby přinesli materiál, který je „válkou bez hollywoodského svícení a speciálních efektů“.
